How the conspiracies are hatched and how the pawn game is
played with such astuteness; has plagued the fragile history of Pakistan
since 2008, when PPP came into power. The only target was and is, the
Supreme Court of Pakistan who resisted corruption and tried to deliver
justice as it should have been. In the process Chief Justice Iftikhar
Choudry has become the most abhorrent person for many, not for those who
seek justice but for, are adroit in flouting the justice.
The latest game was brewed, most probably in Presidency which should have been the symbol of austerity, but unfortunately is abode of intrigues. Each option was weighted, manicured and sifted through logic. The resources were spooned with the tax payers’ money. The common motive was vengeance and the object was to teach a lesson to CJ.
Yet another pawn is used who was stung by the series of decisions by the SC against him. Rawalpindi and Islamabad can boast of two Sicilians’ characters, Raja Akram and Malik Riaz. Former came empty handed from Jhlum but died as King Pir of Pakistan. Nothing was impossible in his Darbar. His Tawiz (chit) used to subdue anybody without reference to the rank. After taking over Bari Imam in Islamabad, he realised the real power lies with army, bureaucracy and press. The politicians were just scum afloat for him. His end was no surprise for many when he was killed brutally. For the reasons best known to Islamabad police, every one of the assassins was gunned down in fake police encounters!
Malik Riaz is more ruthless and callous of the two, was also a broke in his early life. After reaching a certain level, he found out that the real source of power is army and media. He invested profusely on sitting generals and media. Killing is the last resort for him. He pocketed everyone who was for sale. He is Sahib for everybody even though he is a known criminal and land grabber. The tone and the tune were set when he succeeded in retaining the name Bahria for his housing projects, which no ordinary person could think off. Corrupting is a weed used as the best weapon by him.
Hitherto he has dictated his terms and remained elusive in spite of wrath of initial burst of NAB in the early days of Musharaf. But this time he is used like another pawn by Zardari. His stratagems and pickets of power are likely to be exposed with the progress of Dr Arsalan case, one after another.
After finalization of plot, the most heinous and loathsome in the history of Pakistan, the media was steered in the first phase. One could smell something while casually reading the different posts in almost in every paper. All the big known media schlock were summoned by the Sahib and shown the proofs of the corruption of Dr Arsalan, although they have not been provided with copies. The timing of public exposure was delayed, as alleged due to the advice of crying Mr Aitezaz! He was of the opinion that when CJ is out of country, this might entail a situation like 2007. The driver’s advice was logical.
Since the news was broken, innumerable articles, opinions, blogs and letters to editors were written. All scribed either in the garb of sympathy or highlighting the allegations of Musharaf, and so on. The forefronts of Darbari media men did not take much time to show allegiance. The second and third layer is not consuming more days to spring surprises.
The sad part of this yet unfinished saga is that the media is on payroll with few exceptions. To earn money you will have to be a media person or politician and that too without any scruples. No academic qualifications are required in Pakistan for these two professions. They are just salable and pliable commodities. Every one barring few exceptions has to show the loyalty with one’s Sahib.
It is almost impossible to debunk these untouchables. But it looks that they will be smeared in the original colours during the proceedings of this case or at least it is hoped. As Talat Hussain pointed out that the benchmark will be how they participate in the whole episode. How many of them will be exposed and how many will be shielded for future exploits is to be seen.
Chief Justice did not succumb to this blackmailing and challenged them all, fair and square. He took the suo moto notice of these whispers and summoned his son in open court hearing. This jolted the whole game and the grotesque Malik left Pakistan for the time being.
The flattened pawn, the convicted PM risked his sons, by being part of this conspiracy. The Chief Justice is again the focal point and if Dr Arsalan is convicted, nobody else would be spared. It might create a myth which may open doors for revolution. This could be a blessing in disguise.
The Sahib will and should also not be spared personally. He seems to confess that he had given the money in order to get the favours from SC, if at all. What kind of punishment he is handed over for attempts to corrupt and malign the courts, is yet to be seen. Will the Fouji and the media mafias be able to bulwark him, unscathed from the clutches of law? Only time will tell!
